Lament and summary
RantWoman chose the video above as musical theme for this post not at all to take away from the monstrous tragedies occurring in Ukraine right now, but rather simply because RantDad played the bassoon and therefore for RantWoman, bassoons can play lots of different roles in one's psyche.
Seattle is having passionate conversations about problems that the city cannot police their way out of. The Israel Palestine situation is that x about 1000.
Listen to the words of this version, especially at the beginning.
Israel has just ordered 1.1 million people in the North end of Gaza to evacuate south and by the time this posts, even more expanded ground invasion of Gaza than the "surgical" operations RantWoman has seen mention of. Israel has also called up 400,000 reservists.
In other words, despite multiple calls for restraint, what is already described as an open air prison is about to become even more genocidally unbearable for people who have no way to leave. NOR should they have to.
Last week's brazen Hamas military operations against Israel are monstrous. Israel's long history of wildly disproportionate killing sprees is not leading to regional peace. Voices in Israel recognize that.
PRAYER Matters here!
Hold the bomb threats
A question came up among fellow graduates of Princeton, RantWoman's alma mater, about what was happening on the Princeton campus. The short answer: nothing that has made the national news.
A slightly longer answer, two articles from The Daily Princetonian, the best-known student publication.
RantWoman will let the citations speak for themselves. RantWoman is not nostalgic about ALWAYS when helping organize events about Palestinian issues being offered a campus police officer for every event. One time there was also a bomb threat. RantWoman does lament that the general attitude about even trying to have discussion now seems much more volatile than decades ago.
I'll fly away
RantWoman why you gotta grab the flying symbolism THIS WAY?
TOTALLY fair Literature Brain question.
RantWoman will do her best to pull out reflection and NOT wander into an utterly tasteless zone.
Literature brain may wander elsewhere into thoughts of people sacrificing lives, their own and others for some or another Great Cause For now RantWoman will stash the thought for later.
A weighty Friend observed at the beginning of the #Pandemic that for all the military hardware and aircraft carriers and nuclear missiles the US has, the best weapon of prophylaxis against #Covid was soap, followed later by masks.
The 9/11 terrorists brought down civilian airliners with flight training, box cutters, and physics. During the attacks, US aircraft carriers and the submarine fleet put out to see, a gesture now also sometimes seen when the worsening storms brought by climate change. In other words, symbolically military hardware, no matter how much greenwashing it sometimes gets, by itself is no help about climate change.
The Hamas fighters who just invaded Israel on hang gliders evaded the Iron Dome, the Israeli air defense network touted as super powerful against incoming rockets. RantWoman considers this approach militarily brilliant even though RantWoman is as outraged as anyone by the killing spree that followed.
RantWoman needs simply to leave these popcorn kernels here. By now, events have moved past these initial reactions and RantWoman feels no call here to go further, at least for now.
