The Summertime SNAP Challenge

adapted slightly from our weekly bulletin, with full good intentions about seeds for further posts.

Summertime SNAP Challenge. Could you feed yourself and your family on Washington State's SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) allowance of $4.19/day/person?

The Subcommittee on Homelessness invites you to try it for a day, week or month.

What do you predict?

How will you feel?

Will your health improve or degrade?

Will your weight change?

Will you try new recipes?

Keep a diary. Take photos. Calculate the difference in your normal food expenditure and the SNAP budget. We humbly ask you to donate these savings to the  Subcommittee on Homelessness.

On September 27, at rise of meeting, please join us at light lunch. We plan to recount our experiences, tell what we learned, and contribute our monetary or other donations--artwork, recipes, poetry, or photos.

How will the money be used? The Subcommittee is (Meeting's)  direct link with SHARE (Seattle Housing and Resource Effort) nightly shelter hosting 20 people in our worship room. Our fund provides meals to SHARE shelter residents at times when they remain in our building during inclement weather or join in special events. We also endeavor to give thoughtful and useful gifts at Christmas.
