(Be)Longing Together: Mini-Midwinter Gathering of Friends for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer Concerns (FLGBTQC)
Friday, March 13th, through Sunday, March 15th, at North Seattle Friends Church
Friends will gather in Seattle to explore what it means to long/belong together. The weekend’s activities will include worship-sharing groups, art-making spaces, a film screening Friday night, and a talent show Saturday night. We invite ALL who wish to join us to attend this gathering. For more information, check out our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ events/233238424505588/ ), or contact Lewis Maday-Travis (lewis.maday.travis@gmail.com) and Jed Walsh (jedwalsh9@gmail.com). To register, please fill out the form here: http://bit.ly/ BeLongingTogether2020. We can't wait to be in community with you!
DRAFT Schedule
RantWoman especially appreciates an invitation in the registration materials to make access needs known.
RantWoman notes that as of the date of this posting, the Seattle area is in a bit of an uproar about the novel corona virus. RantWoman offers heartfelt prayers both for anyone who is sick and for conditions lining up so that this gathering occurs unimpeded by quarantines, transit conniptions, or other associated circumstances.
RantWoman really likes the community at North Seattle Friends, but the building has a bit of a mold problem in places. RantWoman does not know whether this might be a problem for some visitors.
RantWoman always finds it helpful if there is a movable mic for go-rounds in large groups. RantWoman knows that NSFC has a mic system because it is used during worship. RantWoman deeply appreciates it not only when there is a mic but when Friends use it. RantWoman understands that using the mic does not come naturally for some people and thanks Friends very much in advance for making the effort.
RantWoman has recent experience contemplating accessibility for A Great Wind Blows, a game loved by many Quakers. RantWoman wonders what Friends with mobility impairments think of the game. RantWoman also wonders how to adapt the rules so a wheelchair user could become "it" or whatever the person who gets to set the next category gets called. RantWoman thinks she recalls trying to play A Great Wind Blows at one of the retreats where RantWoman did not even have an opportunity to weigh in about accessibility suggestions. RantWoman is legally blind and built like a linebacker. People wanting to plan a safe event might want to consider how hard RantWoman has to work to avoid plowing into people, even before factoring in the possibility that RantWoman might secretly or not so secretly want to plow into... Oops. Never mind.
Further Meditations about accessibility and access needs.
This is not Baskin Robbins
Still more FLGBTQC gratitudes
Holy Snow and Squash Lentil Soup
Names
Sound and touch and coping
Touchy
READ THE POST before frothing at the mouth about why torpedoes! It's a post also about empathy and the weird fellowships talking about different medical conditions.
