Stand with the Sikh Community Saturday March 11

ACTION ALERT
Standing with the Sikh Community

Below is a sign-on letter for religious leaders that the Church Council plans to present to the Sikh community on Saturday, March 11, at the Community Unity Rally held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Kent Lutheran Church. As you feel called, please sign onto the letter.

As religious leaders from congregations throughout Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. County and beyond, we share our profound shock and sorrow upon learning of the shooting of Mr. Deep Rai. We offer our prayers and thoughts for his full and speedy recovery with deep consolation for his family.

We are horrified that such an attack was directed as a result of Mr. Deep Rai's Sikh religion and ethnicity. For people of faith, an attack on one person because of their religion is an attack on us all. We stand in solidarity with all our Sikh neighbors in the Puget Sound region and the U.S. and will do everything in our power to uphold and affirm the free expression of your faith and the full rights and dignity that you enjoy as human beings and children of God.

Indeed, the Sikh religion, rooted in values such as faith in God, community, equality and social justice, has much to teach us and our nation. We open our hearts in friendship and cooperation with the Sikh community to strengthen our bonds of unity amidst our diversity. May we all be strengthened in the belief and commitment that we are all tied together in the pursuit of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" for all.
