Music to order socks to: Yo-Yo Ma — Bach Cello Suite No. 2 in D minor

Look, world, RantWoman understands that music has moved all kinds of directions since the 17th century. And still, when RantWoman needs to restore order in her universe, Bach cello suites are one serious option for help.

Announcer voice at the end:
D minor is the key of tragedy."

Bach cello suites as path to contemplation ought to sound perfectly reasonable. But if one is into blasphemy, consider the option of ordering compression socks with help from a screen reader while in mid-reverie.

Okay, don't consider some medical, payment, and sister psychodrama threads that could pop out of the story at any second. Just consider a lot of health care workers working under impossible conditions fighting the #CoronaVirusOutbreak. Consider them. Then embrace this wonderful offer from Vim & Vigr Joyous Compression stockings Look, pictures? Of COURSE you want pictures. Just go to the site. Buy some socks!

The offer: for every pair of compression socks sold Vim&Vigr will donate a pair to health care professionals! Buying more compression socks may or may not be the most adult thing to do with a little bit of financial cushion RantWoman has right now, but it feels like a grand gesture. Plus, RantWoman knows lots of people who probably need some more compression sock joy in their lives and should definitely check out Vim&Vigr!.

Shoes, Minutes, Walking in the Light including on Twitter

Signs RantWoman is supposed to continue to be true to her Light:

(Hold in the Light 2 Meeting members and RantMom who live in a retirement community where one resident is sick and in the hospital with #Covid19. Hold in the Light precise terminology because testing may or may not happen until people get really sick and in the meantime, lots of advice to wash hands frequently and cover cough and avoid unnecessary travel.)

Friend One on Twitter, yesterday, who may or may not have been present during what RantWoman sometimes describe as "The Worst Business Meeting Ever" in April 2013 right after the White Privilege Conference, graciously hearing RantWoman's comments about the bump elbows form of greeting" it triggers all of RantWoman's #AskDontGrab blind person moments. (At that Business Meeting, RantWoman needed to speak of ableism, but that probably did not come out of RantWoman's mouth very well AT ALL.)

Friend two, after RantWoman responded to a distress tweet, conversation about FLGBTQC and Min-midwinter gathering and another Meeting and responded to RantWoman's tweet about a leading right now to look out for families, followed RantWoman on Twitter.
RantWoman also realized she might enjoy talking to this Friend some more partly because of her own "It's complicated" personal life. RantWoman saw and even gladly hugged Ferrener / Sometime to be Ex Husband Saturday in the middle of the who is even supposed to go anywhere maelstrom.

This wonderful Friends Journal article:
Friends Journal article Thou Shalt Wear Comfy Shoes
The article talks of speaking of things and having Friends resonate.
The article called to mind a story of Friend Peggy Senger Morrison and a two-mile walk in pumps as part of ministry in Africa.
To be honest, RantWoman is GLAD when there are people who want to wear pumps and sorry to hear there are Quakers so eager to tactlessly police the choice of such footwear. RantWoman does NOT but would really dig options for spangles in shoes that also have good support for walking. Instead RantWoman sensible shoes now sport clever little dog walker lights for "walking in the Light"

RantWoman forgot to add "I have a versatile God who gets things done all kinds of ways" to her litany of God phrases underpinning conversations even with people who are, um, not so down with that God language.

RantWoman has found one set of minutes while meditating about minutes issues. Oh, boy. Hold in the Light. Hold in the Light new Light, continuing Revelation. Hold in the Light RantWoman not being too steamrolled  by ambient Corona Virus anxiety to be able to express herself kindly, as in how for instance to find an adequate translation to Quakerese of "baby Quakers."

As a result of #CoronaVirusSeattle events, RantWoman was able to be on the blind prayer warriors conference call. RantWoman is so warmly received and people speak of the wise things RantWoman posts on a listserve. The group does joys and concerns except they are called praises and prayers. Even though RantWoman is not really used to speaking of "the Enemy," RantWoman found the language helpful and was overwhelmed by how many of the prayers spoke deeply to things on RantWoman's heart. RantWoman is also grateful to share prayers / holding in the Light with others about a couple people RantWoman's heart aches for even if she cannot personally do much more than pray.

International Women's Day Lucia Swarts Bach - Cello Suite No. 1 in G major BWV 1007 - Swarts | Netherlands Bach...

Don't worry. RantWoman will have plenty more words about International Women's day and attempts at National Women's History Month Binge Blog. But for now, how about Protestant mysticism from JS Bach seasoned with a few biographical links for Lucia Swarts

Bio from Challenge Records

Discogs Lucia Swarts

RantWoman is impressed: Lucia Swarts performs both Baroque music on a baroque cello and contemporary music in the Schonberg ensemble.

The first Wikipedia page that pops up for Lucia Swarts is in Dutch, not a language RantWoman is even willing to try to fake it in. The question of faking it though makes RantWoman think of her high school cello teacher: cello teacher had been a German linguist in the military, linguist as in, if the military got rid of all its gay linguists, it would have almost no linguists. Cello teacher opined that Dutch is a lot like German except when it's not and it's a lot like English. With that in mind, just enjoy the music!

Pacific Northwest Quaker Men's Gathering April 17-19 Camp Tillikum OR

RantWoman is probably being repetitive, but please cope.

RantWoman has served multiple times on the planning committee for the Pacific Northwest Quaker Women's Theology Conference. Every time the question of inviting men has come up. Every time, Friends planning the women's conference have felt led to encourage men to organize their own conference. RantWoman is very glad to celebrate the third year when men have actually done this.

The Pacific Northwest Quaker Men's Gathering is in it's third year. We are the result of a strong leading one of our group had while attending Way of the Spirit, a spiritual deepening program operated under the umbrella of Good News Associates. We are very loosely modeled after the Pacific Northwest Women's Theology Conference, and we strive to be open and inviting to any and all Quaker men, or those identifying as male. We have tried very hard to be open and accommodating at every level, and we can almost always adjust for those with special dietary or privacy needs.

In the past three years, we have had men from four different yearly meetings attend, as well as two independent Friends. We are not operating under the care of any particular Yearly Meeting, and so are open to men from any Quaker tradition. All points of view will be honored and treasured.

RIP Freeman Dyson

RantWoman is stashing these Freeman Dyson remembrances here more as a mean to read gesture than anything immediate. Shuffling around halls with the likes of Freeman Dyson is one of the perks of having stumbled into Princeton. RantWoman finds his thinking provocative and does not always agree with it.

Plus in the days of libraries rather than algorithms RantWoman rather liked wandering into libraries and picking up publications she knew she was probably going to disagree with and seeing what other people were thinking.

DRAFT Schedule

RantWoman especially appreciates an invitation in the registration materials to make access needs known.

RantWoman notes that as of the date of this posting, the Seattle area is in a bit of an uproar about the novel corona virus. RantWoman offers heartfelt prayers both for anyone who is sick and for conditions lining up so that this gathering occurs unimpeded by quarantines, transit conniptions, or other associated circumstances.

RantWoman really likes the community at North Seattle Friends, but the building has a bit of a mold problem in places. RantWoman does not know whether this might be a problem for some visitors.

RantWoman always finds it helpful if there is a movable mic for go-rounds in large groups. RantWoman knows that NSFC has a mic system because it is used during worship. RantWoman deeply appreciates it not only when there is a mic but when Friends use it. RantWoman understands that using the mic does not come naturally for some people and thanks Friends very much in advance for making the effort.

RantWoman has recent experience contemplating accessibility for A Great Wind Blows, a game loved by many Quakers. RantWoman wonders what Friends with mobility impairments think of the game. RantWoman also wonders how to adapt the rules so a wheelchair user could become "it" or whatever the person who gets to set the next category gets called. RantWoman thinks she recalls trying to play A Great Wind Blows at one of the retreats where RantWoman did not even have an opportunity to weigh in about accessibility suggestions. RantWoman is legally blind and built like a linebacker. People wanting to plan a safe event might want to consider how hard RantWoman has to work to avoid plowing into people, even before factoring in the possibility that RantWoman might secretly or not so secretly want to plow into... Oops. Never mind.

Further Meditations about accessibility and access needs.
